Sustainable Renton
Free Grocery Store

Feeding our Community One Car at a Time

Overview

Every Monday from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at St. Matthews Lutheran Church (1700 Edmonds Ave NE, Renton, WA), we distribute gleaned and donated produce boxes to hundreds of families in over 100 cars, most of whom are Renton residents. Since beginning operations in 2020, we have successfully handed out over 1,000,000 pounds of food.

Collection

We collect food from a number of area grocery stores, food pantries, local gardens, and government programs. Most of the food we collect is food that would have been wasted due to grocery stores overbuying or miscalculating supply and demand.

Distribution

We are able to accommodate drive-thru and walk-up patrons. Every week, we distribute bread, pastries, fresh produce, deli items, dry goods, meat, and personal hygiene products. Any and all are welcome to receive free food as long as there remains food to give away.

Volunteering

Each week the store is set up, operated, and torn down by 50-75 dedicated volunteers. We are always looking for help on Mondays anytime between the hours of 1:00 pm and 8:00 pm. If you are interested in volunteering at our Grocery Store or during the week with our Gleaning Project please email sustainablerenton@gmail.com
