Food Justice
Sustainable Renton is returning to St. Matthews!
We are happy to announce that, as of February, we have restarted our food distribution at St. Matthew's. The pantry is now inside St. Matthew's, on Wednesday nights from 5 - 6 pm! The pantry coincides with St. Matthew's Wednesday Community Meal, from 5:30 - 6:30 pm, with food supplied by Sustainable Renton.
This new pantry and meal program is possible because Sustainable Renton has several new partners! We are happy to announce that we've been accepted as a new agency with Food Lifeline, which opens up more opportunities for gleaning food. This includes the Tukwila US Chef Store and the Meridian QFC as new grocery store donors. We've also received funding from Harvest Against Hunger to purchase over $4,000 from local King County Farmers this growing season!

Bread from our friends at Macrina Bakery.

We also have officially partnered with Agape Love to support their meal program! at Luther's Table! When the librarys restricted food distribution at their locations, we connected with Agape to help find creative solutions. We are now supporting their Community Breakfast Program on Mondays with food as well as their weekly food outreach in downtown Renton and at sober housing with our rescued food!
Our Greens for Good program is returning for 2026 and starting early this year
- at the West Seattle Farmer's Market!
Our Greens for Good program launched in May of 2025 and helps offset waste burden from local farmers while simultaneously giving fresh produce back to community members experiencing food insecurity. This reduces food waste, helps local farmers - many of whom are recovering from this Winter's flooding, and brings much-needed food to our local food pantries and meal programs.
In June, we will move this program to the Renton Farmers' Market!
This program is made possible through private donations. Click the button below to learn more about how you can support this program through our private donor match of up to $5,000!
Community Garden & Food Forest
Our February Fig Workshop was a success! Our attendees took home 2-4 fig tree starts while helping us with much-needed maintenance on our fig trees! Despite the rain, everyone brought their sunshine smiles to the event!

We're happy to announce that all 38 of our community garden plots are rented for the 2026 season!
We are so grateful for the opportunity to create access for our renters to be able to grow their own food and experience community with the earth!

We have a variety of tasks around our garden and Food Forest, and many hands make quick work!
Our Food Forest is in progress to become an engaging, educational space that inspires circular food systems in your own backyard! We need lots of hands to help it thrive this season!

The Food Forest Subcommittee meets every 2nd and 4th Thursday at 5 pm. This group works hard to make the most of this land so that it can provide resources and education back to the community!
